To stay healthy you should have some basic information about ailments which you might have,or be apprehensive about.the important ones are as follows...

CANCER

Cancer is the commonest cause of death.the things you can do to avoid the disease are:
  • Stop smoking
  • Go easy on alcohol.
  • Avoid being overweight.
  • Cut down on fatty foods.
  • Eat more fibre,fruit and vegetables.
  • Don't expose yourself too much to the sun-this can cause skin cancer.
  • Observe the health and safety regulations at work
  • See Your doctor if you have the following symptoms.
  1. a lump anywhere in the body.
  2. a sore that doesn't heal.
  3. a skin mole which is increasing in size.
  4. any unusual bleeding@in your water or bowel motions.
  5. any bleeding from the vagina or front passage after the manopause.
  6. any mucrus or discharge from the back passage.
  7. a change in bowel habits(like constipation,diarrhoea or the two alternating)
  8. a persistent cough or hoarseness
  9. any unexplained weight loss.
  • Have a regular cervical smear test.
  • Examine your breast every month-look out for any lumps or anything unusual.
  • Check your testicles for cancer,preferably every month.do this after a shower or bath when the scrotal skin is relaxed.If one testicle feels heavier than other or one of the testicles feels unusual,you should consult your doctor.
  • Watch out for cancer of the prostrate,which is three times more common in men than cervical cancer in women.Try to have regular checkup.
HEART DISEASE

There are certain things we can do to try and avoid heart disease:
  • stop smoking and reduce excess drinking
  • Cut down on saturated fats to reduce cholesterol and eat lots of fibre
  • Do something about high blood pressure.To do this follow aal the tips to prevent heart disease and reduce your salt intake.
  • Lose weight if you have to.
  • exercise regularly.
  • Reduce stress.
Some Warning signs of heart attacks are:
a. Uncomfortable pressure,squeezing or pain in the centre of the chest for at least 20 minutes.
b. Pain spreading from the cheast down ito the arms and into the lower jaw or back.
c. Sweating or pallor,breathlessness and fatigue,sometimes accompanied by fainting,nausea,or vomiting.

AIDS

AIDS is the late stage of an infection,caused by HIV,or human immuno-deficiency virus.HIV is transmitted through sexual intercourse,blood transfusions and sharing hypodermic needles.It can also be passed on from mother to child.A woman infected with HIV can pass the virus to her baby during pregnancy,during birth,or shortly after birth.It is not spread through contact-kissing,handshakes,eating from the same dish or drinking from the same glass.You also can't be infected at swimming pools,restaurants or toilets.

DEPRESSION:

Depression can affect us all.
the main Indicator of depression is a sense of isolation.You feel utterly alone in an unescapable prison,that you can't carry on you.You are absent from your work more,you may drink and sleep more,but still feel tired.You also become more prone to illness and depression has been found to precede serious diseases like cancer and heart failure.

MENOPAUSE

The menopause is caused by a dacline in hormones and for some women it can cause adverse physical and psychological symptoms such as aches and pains,irritability,hot flushes and night sweats.
