Former Union Minister and BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad has said media had an "anti-BJP bias" and that television debates do not make election results.

"Television debates don't make election results. Has that been a case, Narendra Modi would not have won any elections because you will hardly see any favourable report about him on any channel," Prasad said interacting during a programme organised here.

A body of professionals terming themselves as "friends of BJP", had organised an interactive session with Prasad during his Goa visit on last evening.

To a question by a young woman professional, who felt that BJP is always shown in bad light by media, the former information and broadcast minister said, "This is an unfortunate reality that there is a secular and communal face off on the television."

Reiterating his claim that television really does not matter, Prasad said that in Tamil Nadu almost all the prominent politicians have TV channels.

"Jaya TV for Jaya, Sun TV for DMK...Makkal TV for PMK and there is another Congress channel. If television would have been so powerful, then Jaya would have never lost to Karunanidhi," the minister said.

He said that anti-BJP stand was a problem only with the English channels and not Hindi channels.

"If you see Hindi channels or regional channels they don't have anti-BJP bias," Prasad added.

The BJP leader appealed to the "friends" of the party to SMS or write to the channels, which they find are bias, asking them to give away the attitude.

The BJP has a slogan of justice to all, he added.

"Our approach is very clear. Justice to all and appeasement to none...For us everyone is equal," he said.

Under Congress regime, 40 major riots have taken place in Gandhinagar and Ahmadnagar, no one talks about it, he said.

"You woke up only in 2001-02? You forgot the great development Narendra Modi has done in Gujarat today in having 17 percent growth rate on par with China?," he questioned.

"TODAY THE HIGHEST NUMBER OF PER CAPITA INCOME OF MUSLIMS IN INDIA IS IN GUJARAT ONLY because Gujarat is rising. Muslims earn pittance in West Bengal ruled by great secular party CPI(M) since 35 years," Prasad said.

Speaking further, he said that BJP has come to power in Nagaland which is 99 percent Christian state.

"We have our Christian MLAs and Christian ministers in Meghalaya and Mizoram which are 99 percent Christian states. How do you wish to ignore the hard realities of today?" he questioned.

•400,000 Kashmiri Pandits, constituting 99% of the total population of Hindus living in Muslim majority area of the Kashmir Valley, were forcibly pushed out of the Valley by Muslim terrorists, trained in Pakistan, since the end of 1989. They have been forced to live the life of exiles in their own country, outside their homeland, by unleashing a systematic campaign of terror, murder, loot and arson.

Terrorist Violence against Kashmiri Pandits in Kashmir - Role of Pakistan

•Terrorism in Kashmir is an ideological struggle with specified political commitments which are fundamentalist and communal in character.

•Terrorist violence is aimed at achieving the disengagement of the state of Jammu and Kashmir from India and its annexation to Pakistan. It is, the continuation of the Islamic fundamentalist struggle for the homeland of Pakistan which claims Jammu and Kashmir state on account of its Muslim majority character.

•The major dimension of the terrorist violence in Kashmir is the terrorists' commitment to the extermination and subjugation of the Hindus in the state because Hindus do not subscribe to the idea of separation from India, nor do they expect to be governed by the authority of the state which derives its sanction from the law and precedent of Islam. Kashmiri Pandits (Hindus) have always been in the forefront of the struggle against secessionism, communalism and fundamentalism. Hence this peace loving minority with a modern outlook became the main victim of terrorist violence. The strategies involved in the terrorists' operation against the Hindus in Kashmir include:

The extermination of Hindus

Subjecting Hindus to brutal torture to instill fear among them in order to achieve their submission.

To engineer a forced mass exodus of Hindus from the land of their ancestors and birth by way of issuing threatening letters, kidnappings and torture deaths on non-compllance of the terrorists' dictates and ensure the destruction of the secular and pluralistic character of the socio-political fabric of the Kashmiri Society.

Attacks, molestations, kidnappings, gang rapes of the women folk of the Hindus in order to instil fear and humiliation in them.

Destruction and burning of the residential houses of the Hindus who leave their homes in look out for safety. Looting of their properties and appropriation of their business establishments to ensure that they do not return.

Attachment of their landed property.

Destruction of the social base of the Hindus by the desecration and destruction of their places of worship.

Appropriation of the property of the Hindu shrines and its attachment to Muslim religious endowments.

Universal Apathy

Failure of Government of India:

•The Jammu and Kashmir Government and Government of India have failed squarely to protect the Kashmiri Pandits against Islamic terrorism.

•Jammu and Kashmir being the only Muslim majority state in whole of India, the protection of minorities and their living peacefully, in their homeland, is crucial for India to remain as a Secular Democratic State.

•Ethnic cleansing of Kashmiri Pandits (Hindus) from Kashmir valley is the crucial failure of Indian state to uphold its commitments to people of India as enshrined in Indian constitution which provides right to live with dignity and honour to every citizen irrespective of caste, creed, religion or colour.

Failure of Human Rights Organisations:

•Leading International Human Rights Organisations like Amnesty International, Asia Watch and others have yet to take proper cognisance of the genocide perpetrated on Kashmiri Pandits.

•Their representatives have so far failed to visit the camps in Jammu, Delhi and other parts of India were thousands of families are puting up for the last five years.

•Gradual extinction of a civilised community with an ancient culture is yet to shake the conscience of the world.

After The Exodus

•More than 5000 persons have died in camps and elsewhere after their forced exodus from the valley. They died of sunstrokes (more than 1000) as most of them were used to cold climate of Kashmir and could not acclimitize to extremely hot temperatures in rest of India.

•Heart attacks and accidents which have been mainly attributed to extreme psychological trauma and mental pressures by the doctors.

•Gastroentritis and typhoid epidemics, snake bites etc.

•The cohesiveness of the displaced families has broken as they were to undergo diaspora for finding livelihood in various parts of country.

•Cultural Dilution - The whole displaced community with a distinct culture is facing the threat of extinction after loosing its natural habitat.

•Kashmiri Pandits have always been devoted to spritual and academic pursuits.

•They have during their history of more than 5000 years nurtured values of peace, co-existence and tolerance.

•They are the original inhabitants of Kashmir.

•Kashmiri Pandits are progenitors of Kashmir Shaivism the philosophy of oneness of mankind.

•Hinyan and Sarvastivadin sects of Budhism found highest expression in Kashmir and Kashmiri Pandits spread their message to China and Central Asia.

•Kashmiri Pandits have contributed immensely to the evolution of human thought by contributing to almost all fields of creative human endeavour like literature (mainly Sanskrit), language, science and philosophy from times immemorial.

•Since the advent of Islam in 14th century, Kashmiri Hindus have been subjected to extreme persecution. To escape religious fanaticism in the form of forced conversions to Islam they had either to embrace death or leave Kashmir more than once during the last six hundred years.

•Present exodus of Kashmiri Pandits is fourth mass exodus in the history of Kashmir since the advent of Islam in this part.

Kashmiri Pandit: A Rare Pocket Of Tolerance

•Inspite of repeated rejection of co-existence and pluralism by Muslim society for the last six hundred years, Kashmiri Pandit has not given up his faith in these values.

•He has not reciprocated fanaticism with fanaticism and violence with violence.

•In a world threatened with ethnic and religious strifes where various parties have invariably resorted to violence and force, to further their claims, Kashmiri Pandit isthe only example who has totally rejected the violence as a means to fulfill socio-political aspirations.

World therefore has a stake in protecting this culturally rich, educated and peace loving community, from becoming extinct, if it has to move towards a Modern World Order of Peace and Universal brotherhood.

Terrorist violence cannot be justified on the ground of its political and ideological motivations or value basis. Terrorist violence in the valley is not a Freedom Struggle at all. Abul Kalam Azad : Abul Kalam Azad, while addressing his students, said “A country like India , which has once been under Mohammedan rule, must never be given up, and it was incumbent on them to strive to regain their lost contol.”

On another occassion, Maulana Azad, who held the responsible position of the president of All India Congress, burst out venomously in an irresponsible manner: “Against the non-Muslim Government, Islam prescribes only sword, protracted battle and the cutting of throats.”

Liaqat Ali Khan : Liaqat Ali Khan was the secretary of the Muslim League. He was the right hand of Jinnah. It was Liaqat Ali, who, during the election campaign in 1946, boasted in Delhi . “The Muslim is a born fighter. He may hesitate to cast a vote for Pakistan , but he would not hesitate to shed his blood.” After the partition, he became the first prime minister of Pakistan . Nature is too strict and stern to spare anybody. Liaqat Ali, who got Pakistan through artifical riots, did not die a natural death. He was assassinated.

H.S. Suhrawardy : Hassan Shahid Suhrawardy was political disciple of Jinnah. He is notoriously known in history as the great killer of Hindus in the Calcutta massacre. While addressing the Muslim League Legislators’ Convention held in Delhi on April 9, 1946, Suhrawardy declared like Hitler that Pakistan was the Muslims’ latest, but not the last demand, and that if the British rulers entrusted the destiny of India to the Congress, the Muslim League would not allow the Central Government to function even for a day. On another occasion he, in his capacity as chief minister of Bengal, threatened: “If the Congress was entrusted with power at the Centre, I would declare Bengal independent.”

Feroz Khan Noon : Feroz Khan Noon, a fanatic leader of the Muslim League, while addressing the Muslim League legislators’ meeting, said: “The havoc, that the Muslims would play, would put to shame what Changez Khan and Halaku did.”

Ghaznafar Ali Khan : Ghaznafar Ali Khan, who was the health minister in the Viceroy’s Interim Government, headed by Pandit Nehru, spoke at Lahore : “If Mohammed-Bin- Kasim and Mahmood Ghaznavi could invade India with armies composed of a few thousands, and yet were able to overpower lakhs of Hindus, God willing a few lakhs of Muslims will yet overwhelm crores of Hindus.” It was he, who openly advised Hindus to embrace Islam to save themselves from the holocaust.

Dr. Ali Mohammed Naqvi : Dr. Ali Mohammed Naqvi was a follower of the Deoband School of Islamic ideology, which totally thwarted the concept of nationalism and democracy. He authored a book, Islam and Nationalism, in which he unequivocally stated: “Nationalism is incompatible with Islam... The concept of a ‘nationalist Muslim’ is as absurd as that of a ‘religious Communist’ or ‘capitalist Marxist’. ..... When the ideology of Islam expands, nationalism is destroyed, and when nationalism grows, Islam is annihilated.”

Hamid Dalwai : Hamid Dalwai, a nationlist Muslim and true son of Hindusthan, rightly reveals the attitude of fanatic Muslims in his book, Muslim Politics in India . He unambiguously states: “In sum, Muslims cannot reconcile themselves with the nationalism of any country, where they are in a minority.”

F.K. Khan Durrani : In the preface to his book. The Meaning of Pakistan, Mr. Durrani boastfully brags: “There is not an inch of the soil of India which our forefathers did not once purchase with their blood. We cannot be false to the blood of our fathers. India , the whole of it, is therefore our heritage, and it must be reconquered for Islam.... Our ultimate ideal should be the unification of India , spiritually as well as politically under the banner of Islam. The final political salvation of India is not otherwise possible.”

Attaullah Suhrawardy : Attaullah Suhrawardy, a senior leader of the National Conference of Kashmir, and former minister and deputy speaker of Kashmir , unquivocally asserted in his speech in the state legislative council: ‘I am first a Muslim and then an Indian. Islam does not need the support of anyone for its spread. It is spreading on its own. At the time of partition, there were only four and a half crore Muslims in the country. However, in spite of the bloody communal riots in Bhiwandi, Moradabad, Aligarh and other areas, killing thousands of Muslims, the population of Muslims has increased to 14 crores, .....As for the question of conversion of all to Islam, it is the fundamental duty of a Muslim to strive for conversion and any Muslim who does not remember this duty, does not deserve to be called a Muslim.”

Syed Ali Shah Geelani: Syed Ali Shah Geelani, a leader of Jama’at-i-islami categorically expresses his political ideology: “The politics of socialism and secularism is totally unsound. I do not like any Muslim to adopt socialsim and secularism as his political ideal.”

Azam Khan : Azam Khan, the then MLA of UP Legislative Assembly burst into vile words against the motherland, Bharat Mata, at a public meeting in Kanpur on March 23, 1987: “Is this our motherland? This is a blood-thirsty mother. This is not mother, this is a witch.”

Salahuddin Oweisi : Salahuddin Oweisi, a member of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly, publicly suggested: “There should be a separate Muslim state within each state of India .”

In sharp contrast to all this, Jagadguru Shankaracharya of Sringeri, in his interview , said that Muslims are our brothers as our forefathers were common. Hence I wish them prosperity and happiness.

Now if Muslims want to prove that Jehad means peace and terrorism is against Islam, then they will have to show it in their thought and action, instead of mere statements and slogans. This will bring them world wide respect.
